Maybe there could have been a DVD player, but I read two books instead. We borrowed snorkel equipment from our hosts, and hiking chairs, and went off in search of underwater life every day. Our hosts were wonderful. A fount of information whenever we asked, and none if we didn't. The honor bar was a great touch. It made us come home earlier every night because the drinks at the B&B were cheaper than in town! It was a beautiful place, nicely located near town, and with gorgeous views. The hosts were quite pleasant, very knowledgeable and helpful, but not at all intrusive. We were very happy with our choice to stay here and are already making plans for our next visit. John and Nancy were the perfect hosts. Our experience would not have been as special without them. Our advice to anyone considering St. John: Do it and if you want a lovely, intimate, convenient place to stay, stay with John and Nancy. Other advice: St. John is a fun place. Lots of beautiful beaches, hiking, restaurants, live music, great snorkling. All things considered, St. John was also an excellent value. Garden By The Sea is the best location on the island. It is a short walk or invigorating hike to town depending on which way you go. It seemed like we were on our own little island and in the heart of Cruz Bay at the same time. For the most flexibility definitely rent a car. This will also end up saving money, too. From snorkling to snow shoveling was a tough adjustment. You don't even have to do any excursions, b/c you can get everywhere by jeep. Our 8 day stay at Garden By The sea was even better than we had hoped, the garden shower was heavenly, the Wild Ginger Room beautiful, and John and Nancy could not have been more delightful or helpful. The delicious breakfasts in the morning had us jumpimg out of bed, and the house felt like our own. At this moment I am wearing my Garden By The Sea bathrobe and dreaming of the pina colada french toast and the Bushwackers at Woodys. (Dont miss the day sail with Capt Doug on the Gypsy Spirit and the fun bars in Jost Van Dyke!) We had a blast and will be back. - R Blue & S Roch - from: United States Awesome, awesome, awesome. We visistd St. John for a long weekend to celebrate our 1st anniversary and couldn't have been more pleased. Suite/bathroom were perfect (can't imagine anything better) and breakfasts were wonderfull (only needed a snack for lunch). Certainly NOT the impersonal feel that you're sure to get from ANY hotel. Nancy and John were (are ) extremely friendly and were very helpful with suggestions of things to do on the island (we had the outline, they helped provide some details... we really enjoyed the snorkeling in salt pond bay).
